Saudi Arabia to prioritise nuclear power generation, Saudi Energy Minister

Riyadh: Since Saudi Arabia has found large uranium reserves, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman says it will boost the development of nuclear power generation. It will also help Saudi Arabia diversify its energy mix by including nuclear sources. Presently Iran, Israel and the UAE have nuclear power plants in the countries of the Middle East.

Israel claims that Iran has come a long way in developing nuclear weapons. Now Saudi Arabia has indicated to implement a nuclear program and is in discussion with various countries like China, Russia, and Pakistan. A few months ago, it was also reported that China is cooperating with Saudi Arabia to develop a nuclear-capable ballistic missile.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has set an ambitious goal of transitioning the country’s economy away from crude oil and natural gas. For this, green energy and advanced technology are obvious choices. At the same time, there are indications that nuclear power is part of a strategic shift. Although the amount of uranium reserves in Saudi Arabia has not been disclosed, it has been claimed that there are enough reserves to develop a nuclear power sector.
