US Space Force holds its first round of exercises to tackle any future conflicts in Europe

Berlin: The US Space Force Command, established two years ago, conducted its first joint military exercise. It included three allies, viz the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. The possibility of war with Russia in the coming times has increased in Eastern Europe. In such a scenario, countering future threats to Europe arising from space was practised. The United States has prioritised establishing the space force in the last few weeks. A few days ago, the United States opened its first space force base in South Korea.

US Space Force holds its first round of exercises to tackle any future conflicts in EuropeAccording to the Space Training and Readiness Command-STAR (STAR), the exercise ‘Space Flag 23-1’ between the United States and its allies was conducted recently. The exercise was held at Shriver Space Force Base in Colorado, USA. The exercise was organised against the background of the situation in the area of the US European Command. This two-day exercise was conducted for each area of Orbital Warfare, Electronic Warfare, Space Awareness and Intelligence Command.

Space Force Lieutenant Colonel Albert Harris informed that challenges related to the security of the United States and allied countries in the European Command were considered. US Space Force holds its first round of exercises to tackle any future conflicts in EuropeLieutenant Colonel Harris explained that in this exercise, the responsibility of the US Space Force Command and the subsequent action was studied if war broke out in Europe soon. Harris further said that planning and preparations had been made since February for this war exercise.

The US Space Force exercise was delayed after Russia attacked Ukraine at the end of February. But during this period, it became easier to focus on threats to Europe’s security. Colonel Jess Schramm claimed that winning the war in space is a joint responsibility of the United States and its allies.

Meanwhile, three weeks ago, General B. Chance Saltzman claimed that the Ukraine conflict going on for the last ten months had increased the importance of satellites and the systems based on them. General Saltzman claimed that sophisticated warfare is being played out in Ukraine and security of space interests will play an important role in future wars. At the same time, Saltzman pointed out that no one can deny the importance of space and its security.
