Ukraine’s drone attack destroys power stations in Russia – electricity supply stalled in thousands of houses in Belgorod province

Kyiv/ Moscow – Ukraine has launched drone strikes in Russia’s Belgorod province. These attacks completely destroyed two power stations in Belgorod province on Sunday night. Due to this attack, it is said that the power supply of thousands of houses has been cut off. Belgorod province, which borders Ukraine, has been targeted continuously since last year, with attacks on civilian settlements, malls, factories and defence bases in the province. Russia has been attacking other parts of Ukraine for the past few weeks, including eastern Ukraine. It is said that the Ukrainian army suffered heavy losses in this battle. At the same time, the focus on Bakhmut has led to criticism of Ukraine from Western countries and question marks have also been raised on the plan of counter-attacks against Russia. Against this backdrop, Ukraine’s drone strike in the Belgorod province attracts attention.

On Sunday night, drone attacks took place on power stations in the villages of Igumenka and Dragunsko in Belgorod province. These attacks led to huge fires in power stations. Sources informed that large plumes of fire and smoke could also be seen from the surrounding villages. The governor of Belgorod province has acknowledged the attacks. Due to these attacks, the electricity supply of thousands of houses has been interrupted and it will take several days to restore it, according to the local authorities.

Moreover, Ukraine’s air force has warned that Ukraine will lose its ‘air defence’ capability in the coming weeks as Ukrainian drones launch attacks on Russian territories. Ukraine’s air defence systems include the Bak and S-300 systems. The stockpile of missiles required for these systems is running out. The number of air defence systems and missiles the West provides is also limited. The air force officials warned it could threaten Ukraine’s air security in the coming months.

Furthermore, Ukraine’s air force has pointed out that if the air defence system is unavailable, Ukraine’s counter-offensive campaign could also be hampered. It was also revealed in the Pentagon leak that came to light a few days ago that American officials expressed concern about this. Ukraine and Western systems also claim that the Russian defence forces can exploit this and increase the intensity of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry has claimed that Russian forces have captured two areas in the ongoing fierce conflict in Bakhmut.
