Ankara/Baghdad: While the entire world’s attention is focused on the Russia-Ukraine war, Turkey has invaded Iraq. Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar informed that 19 Kurdish rebels were killed in the airstrikes carried out on the Kurdish locations in Iraq. Turkey said that the attacks were launched to target the Kurdish rebel organisation Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Meanwhile, it is also being reported that the Kurdish rebels expelled the Turkish special forces trying to intrude into certain regions.

Hidden bases, bunkers, tunnels, arms depots and certain essential locations of the Kurdish rebels have been destroyed in the attacks carried out by the Turkish fighter jets. The rebel PKK is headquartered in the northern region of Iraq. Defence Minister Akar accused the Kurdish rebels are using this land to launch attacks on Turkey. For the last few days, PKK rebels have been assembled in this region on a large scale. Accusing that they were planning a major attack, Defence Minister Akar justified the attacks. A week before the action, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, had visited Turkey and met Turkish President Recep Erdogan. After that, Turkey invaded Iraq to start an action against the Kurdish rebels. International media are pointing out that no reaction has been received from the head of the Kurdistan province so far. Some international analysts believe that Turkey invaded Iraq, taking advantage of the Russia-Ukraine war.
