Russia develops ‘Mobile Anti-Satellite Combat System’

Moscow – The Russian Army has developed a new ‘Mobile Anti-Satellite Combat System’. Information about this was given in the journal Voennaya Miysl (Military Thought), published by the Ministry of Defense of Russia. The name of this system is the ‘Kontakt Anti-Space Defense Complex’. These systems include MiG-31 interceptor, IL-76 transport aircraft, A60 Sokol-Echelon combat laser system, Peresvet combat laser system and 79M6 Kontakt anti-satellite missile.

Moreover, the United States and European countries are constantly accusing both Russia and China that they are preparing for a space war. The United States had also consistently released information about Russia’s space activities. Against this backdrop, Russia’s disclosure of its anti-satellite system is noteworthy.

Furthermore, the efforts to develop anti-satellite systems in Russia began in the 1980s. In 2009, Russia announced that it was developing an anti-satellite system. Then in 2018, photographs of an unknown missile deployed on a Russian MiG-31 aircraft were released. After that, in 2020, a company in the defence sector of Russia informed that it had obtained a patent for ‘Carrier Aircraft for Combat Laser System’.
