Russia to severe diplomatic ties with the West: Medvedev

Moscow: Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and Vice President of the Security Council warned that Russia would retaliate against the sanctions imposed by the western countries by severing diplomatic ties with them. The assets of the western countries in Russia will be frozen. Russia will also withdraw from the nuclear weapons agreement with the United States.

The United States and its western allies announced harsh sanctions against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military. The United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and senior leaders from his government, linked billionaires, industrialists, banks and members from the trading community. The western countries also targeted the Russian companies linked to semiconductors and the military.

In the last few hours, the US allies Australia, South Korea and Japan joined the list of countries imposing sanctions. The western media have claimed that these sanctions caused the value of the Russian currency to decline. Western leaders, media, and analysts claim that these sanctions will teach a lesson to the Russian regime. But experts had claimed that Russia had already prepared for such sanctions. Dmitry Medvedev, Vice President of the Security Council, warned of retaliation while speaking to an international news agency. It would first start with severing diplomatic ties with western countries. The former President informed that assets held by western countries, leaders and companies in Russia would be frozen and steps have been initiated in that direction.

Medvedev said that Russia would withdraw from the agreement signed between the United States and Russia regarding nuclear weapons. With this, Russia has indicated an increase in nuclear weapons. The death sentence will be implemented in Russia to protest against the expulsion of Russia from the Council of Europe, levelling fake accusations of human rights violations. A few days ago, Medvedev had criticised, those Western countries have demonstrated their incapability by imposing sanctions against Russia.
