North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile at around 7:30 am on Thursday. As usual, North Korea has avoided disclosing the details of the missile. But according to information released by the South Korean military, North Korea tested a different, new, and long-range missile. Most of the missiles launched by North Korea in the past were liquid-fueled-based. But South Korea’s military said the ballistic missile projected on Thursday was solid-fueled based.

Moreover, solid-fuel-based missiles have higher speeds and can easily carry explosives than liquid-fueled missiles. Therefore, the South Korean Army has claimed that North Korea has tested a new type of missile. In addition, South Korean military analysts say the progress made by North Korea in its missile programme under Western sanctions has been shocking. Simultaneously, South Korea’s military and analysts made it aware that North Korea’s missiles have increased regional tensions.

Furthermore, Japan issued an alert for its citizens in Hokkaido in the next few minutes after North Korea launched a missile on Thursday morning. Expressing concern that a North Korean missile would enter Japan’s territory in the next two-three minutes, Japan instructed the citizens of Hokkaido province to take shelter in a safe place. Because of this, the citizens in Hokkaido province rushed. But a major disaster was averted as North Korea’s missiles crashed before entering Japanese airspace.

However, South Korea’s Defense Ministry criticised North Korea’s missile test as a provocation. Besides, the Japanese government has said North Korea’s test was provocative and will increase regional tensions. Simultaneously, the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has ordered to prepare for any contingency and to respond to North Korea’s missiles.

Meanwhile, underlining the threat of missile attacks from North Korea and China, the Japanese government has suggested setting up bomb shelters. Additionally, leaders of Japan have been expressing concern that there were no bomb shelters for the safety of the people in their country, like the US and Russia. Japan has taken steps to provide such accommodation to the people of remote villages, including the capital Tokyo and other major cities. Moreover, Japan seems convinced that the threat of missile attacks from China and North Korea cannot be denied.
