Ex-US NSA John Bolton proposes a 'New American Grand Strategy' to counter Russia and China

Washington – John Bolton, the former National Security Adviser of the United States, has proposed that the United States and allied countries adopt a new policy to prevent the growing threat of the ‘Russia-China Axis’ that has emerged at the international level. In an article written in a leading US daily, Bolton said that a post-Cold War era has ended and new threats have emerged. In his article, he highlighted three points: increasing defence spending, expanding the ‘Collective Defense Alliance’ and breaking up the global NATO and Russia-China axis.

Moreover, Bolton has written an article titled ‘New American Grand Strategy’ in the leading American daily ‘Wall Street Journal’. It mentions the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Bolton mentioned that the Russia-China axis and their support from countries like North Korea and Iran is a new threat. He highlighted three points to combat this menace.

Furthermore, he suggested that the US and allied countries increase their defence spending as much as in the Reagan era. This growth should not be temporary, but long-term said the former advisors of the US. In the second point, Bolton said there is a need for further improvement and expansion of the alliances created by the United States to achieve collective security. It has been suggested that the proposal of ‘Global NATO’ given by the former Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar, should be taken forward. Bolton advised including countries like Japan, Australia, and Israel.

At the same time, he further said that the United States should increase its cooperation with Middle East countries and end the influence of Russia and China in this area. In his article, Bolton also mentioned the ‘Asian NATO’, including the Quad and the AUKUS. Making the third point, the former US security advisor claimed that Ukraine would win the conflict against Russia. After that, Bolton suggested that the United States focus on breaking the alliance between Russia and China.
