Pyongyang / Tokyo / Seoul: North Korea, which tested an intercontinental ballistic missile on Saturday, fired two new missiles in 48 hours. Japanese sources said the missiles fired on Monday morning fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Pacific Ocean. While firing these missiles, Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong has warned that the entire Pacific region is a ‘firing range’ for North Korea. Monday’s missile launch marks North Korea’s third ballistic missile launch in the new year.

On Monday morning, North Korea fired two ballistic missiles in quick succession from a base on its east coast. The North Korean news agency said that both missiles ranged between 335 and 400 kilometres and were launched using launchers. The Korean media also claimed these missiles were part of a ‘tactical nuclear weapon’. Japan’s Ministry of Defense reported that both missiles reached an altitude of 50 to 100 kilometres.

Moreover, Japan has demanded a meeting of the Security Council in response to North Korea’s missile launch. South Korea’s defence ministry called the missile launch a serious provocation. South Korea’s foreign ministry also announced sanctions against five North Korean companies and four officials.

Furthermore, North Korea, which fired missiles twice in three days, has maintained its aggressive stance. Kim Yo-jong, sister of Kim Jong-un, issued a direct warning to the US. A study is going on about the effect of the exercises conducted by America and South Korea on the security of our country. North Korea will decide how to use the Pacific region as a firing range based on the actions of the US defense forces in the future, warned Kim Yo-jong. Earlier on Friday, North Korea had threatened America and South Korea.

Meanwhile, the missile launch on Monday was North Korea’s third missile launch in the new year. Earlier on January 1, North Korea had test-fired three short-range ballistic missiles. Then on Saturday, February 18, the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile was tested. It was said that this missile, with a range of 13 thousand kilometres, was tested to test its ‘nuclear deterrent’ capability. Korean media claimed that the missiles fired on Monday were also ‘tactical nuclear weapons’.
