Jerusalem: A Palestinian attacker’s firing killed two Israeli citizens. This has had strong repercussions, and angry Israeli citizens have attacked the houses of Palestinians in the West Bank and set cars on fire. There was a claim that one Palestinian was killed. After this, Israel increases the deployment of soldiers in the West Bank. Meanwhile, Jordan mediated between the administrations of Israel and Palestine to prevent Palestinian attacks on Israel in the West Bank. But after Sunday’s incident, this ceasefire appears to be under threat.

Attacks on Jews in Palestine’s West Bank by single terrorists and fundamentalists affiliated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad have increased. Israel has been accusing these radical organisations in Palestine of killing innocent civilians by carrying out attacks in Israel. Besides, the Palestinian government has blamed the killing of 62 Palestinians in the operation of Israel in the last two months. Against this background, Jordan’s mediation initiated the talks between Israel and Palestine representatives.

In this meeting held in Jordan, there was a consensus between the leaders of Israel and Palestine to stop the ongoing violence in the West Bank. Moreover, representatives from both sides had agreed to make immediate efforts for this. Officials from the US and Egypt also participated in the meeting held in Jordan. Besides, some radical leaders in Palestine criticised the outcome of the meeting and Jordanian mediation. But due to this successful meeting, it was claimed that the ongoing violence in East Jerusalem and West Bank would stop.

But on Sunday morning, an unknown assailant shot and killed two Jews on the streets of Hawara in the West Bank city of Nablus. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the attack a terrorist attack. The assailant escaped from the spot. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. But after the attack, angry Jews began protesting in the West Bank’s northern part. The protests took a violent turn, while Palestinian agencies have been alleging that a Palestinian youth was killed in an attack by an Israeli citizen in Zattara, Nablus.

The mob raised loud slogans throughout Sunday night and torched Palestinian homes and property in different parts of the northern West Bank. At least 30 houses and cars have been claimed to be damaged, whose photographs and videos were released on social media. The United States and the European Union have expressed concern over this violence. Also, these countries appealed that both administrations should try to prevent this violence.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu appealed to the angry crowd to remain calm. Also, army deployment has increased in Nablus and other cities. However, due to this violence, the ceasefire mediated by Jordan has been in jeopardy, and there is a high possibility of a new conflict breaking out here at any moment.
