The patrol boats of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized the NIOVI oil tanker, which left for the Port of Fujairah from the Dubai port of UAE. The US Navy reported that Iran carried out this operation in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. Initially, Iran refused to take responsibility for this action. But in the next few hours, Iran reported that it had brought the tanker to Bandar Abbas. The US Navy has strongly criticized Iran’s action. The US has accused Iran of challenging international norms and regional stability and security by taking such actions. Last week, Iran seized an oil tanker bound for the US in the Gulf of Oman. Iran, boosted in confidence after cooperation with Saudi Arabia, seems to have increased its activities in the maritime sector.
