US launches airstrikes on an Iranian base in Syria, minimum 22 killed -

Washington: A minimum of 22 people have been killed in the airstrike launched by the US fighter jets in the Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria. The United States carried out this action on the bases of Iran affiliated terrorist organisations. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby informed that President Joe Biden issued the orders for the attacks. The international media is pointing out that this action was taken within a month of Biden taking over as the US President.

The United States continued with the attacks from Thursday night to Friday early morning, in the Al Bukamal region, near the Iraqi border. Locals claimed that one person was killed in the attack. But as per the information given by the human rights organisation and medical officers, 22 people have been killed in the attacks. The human rights organisation informed that the bases of Iran affiliated terrorist organisations, Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Sayyid Al-Shuhada, in Al Bukamal, were devastated by the airstrikes. John Kirby, the spokesman of the US defence headquarters, Pentagon, released the information regarding the US attacks in Syria. Kirby said that the Iran affiliated terrorist organisations were targeted in Syria, as per the orders issued by President Biden. Kirby informed that President Biden would soon retaliate against the attacks on the soldiers of the United States and its allies in Iraq. On the condition of anonymity, a US official said that this US action in Syria was to issue a warning to Iran.

It has been a month since Biden took over as the President. During this month, Biden had avoided the topic of Iranian bases in Syria and Iraq and the terrorist organisations affiliated with Iran. Biden had refrained from reacting even on the US soldiers in Iraq, military bases and the attack near the embassy over the last two weeks. Criticism had started that President Biden, who is preparing to sign a nuclear deal with Iran, is adopting a soft stand against Iran. In this scenario, surprise is being expressed over the attacks ordered by President Biden in Syria on Friday.
