Violence in West Bank will intensify further - Israeli military intelligence

Jerusalem: Brigadier General Amit Saar, the head of the Israeli army’s intelligence department, warned that It is true that the security structure set up by Israel for its internal security has achieved great success so far. But now, this structure is facing setbacks. As a result, Israel’s internal security is undermined, and the growing discontent among Palestinian youth will exacerbate violence in the West Bank. Escalating violence in the West Bank will be the second biggest threat to Israel after the perceived threat from Iran in 2023.

In 2021, there were 91 attacks on Israelis by extremists in the West Bank. But this year, there has been a sharp increase in attacks against the West Bank. In the last eleven months, 281 incidents of attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers have come to light. There are many Israeli security forces personnel among the victims of these attacks. Since March, Israeli security forces have detained more than 2,500 people in West Bank operations.

Brigadier General Saar pointed out in a program organized by a military think tank that it has been exposed that extremists in the West Bank are using guns and rifles instead of sharp weapons. The involvement of the young generation of Palestine in this violence has increased and the administration of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank has failed to influence the youth. On the contrary, Brigadier General Saar said that the influence of terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad on this young generation is alarming.

The violence in the West Bank and increasing attacks on Israeli civilians and security forces pose a major challenge for Israel. Saar claimed that violence in the West Bank poses the second biggest threat to Israel’s security after the threat from Iran. Therefore, to stop the violence in the West Bank, there is a need for a new way of thinking. It is necessary to find out the reasons behind this violence and take action on it, explained the Chief of the Intelligence Department of the Army.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Saar also expressed his views on the protests that have been going on in Iran for almost three months. The protests against the hijab in Iran will soon subside, the Iranian regime will succeed. But these demonstrations will pose a bigger challenge to the Iranian regime in the coming times, Saar claimed.
