US deploys nuclear submarine in Middle East amid rising tensions with Iran

Washington – USS Florida, a nuclear-powered submarine armed with 154 Tomahawk missiles, has been deployed in the Middle East, the Pentagon announced. It is claimed that the recent deployment by the US was made against the backdrop of rising tensions with Iran in the past few days. A few days ago, the US deployed destroyers near the coast of Syria, citing the increasing threat from Iran. Therefore, military analysts say that the US has made this second deployment against Iran in just a week.

Moreover, any country, including the United States, has never publicly disclosed the location or deployment of submarines because the submarine is known as the secret weapon of the naval fleet. The US Navy has also adopted the same policy until now. However, on Saturday, the Pentagon made a rare announcement of the deployment of the Ohio-class nuclear submarine USS Florida. The Pentagon said that the submarine, part of the US Fifth Fleet, crossed the Suez Canal and headed for the Persian Gulf on Friday.

The submarine will join the US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain. Commander Timothy Hawkins, a spokesman for the Fifth Fleet, said the submarine was deployed to maintain security and stability in the Middle East. Commander Timothy himself informed that this submarine has 154 Tomahawk surface-to-air missiles. The Pentagon or the Fifth Fleet refrained from directly referring to Iran while referring to the submarine deployment. But military analysts have claimed that the US is demonstrating its might by deploying the submarine in the Persian Gulf.

Meanwhile, analysts are drawing attention to the attacks by Iran and Iran-affiliated terrorist organizations on the US military in Syria for the past few days. A contractor was killed while US soldiers and locals were injured in drone strikes on US military bases in Syria. Alleging that these drones are Iranian-made, the United States blamed the attacks on Iran-affiliated terrorists. Against this backdrop, the US deployed destroyers near the coast of Syria a few days ago.
