Switzerland extends full support to Israel against Hamas attacks

Bern – Switzerland, which has so far refrained from taking sides in the war between Israel and Hamas, has now said that Israel has full right to self-defence. At the same time, Switzerland has prepared to ban supporters of Hamas, a terrorist organisation. Consequently, analysts drew attention to the fact that this could affect Hamas’ financial transactions associated with Swiss banks and financial institutions and may also lead to economic sanctions to corner Hamas.

Moreover, the Federal Council considered the most important political system in Switzerland’s administration, presented a proposal to ban Hamas on Wednesday. Also, it has become necessary to give an appropriate response to the horrific massacre carried out by Hamas on October 7. Hence, the Federal Council announced the preparations required to ban Hamas. Besides, the Swiss agencies claimed that this would make it easier to take action against Hamas and its affiliated organisations and supporters in Switzerland.

In addition, the Federal Council said that it was necessary to follow the rights recognised in the war in the Gaza Strip and give priority to avoiding loss of lives. Also, it expressed condolences to the Palestinians killed during Israel’s action. However, the Swiss Council strongly alleged that Hamas terrorists have been responsible for the military action launched by Israel in the Gaza Strip. Besides, Switzerland’s far-right Swiss People’s Party (SVP) had demanded a ban on Hamas.

Apart from this, the European Union (EU) has declared Hamas a terrorist organisation. However, all the European countries that have become members of this federation have not proclaimed Hamas a terrorist organisation and have not even banned Hamas. Despite reactions to Hamas’s attack on Israel one and a half months ago, and later Hamas’s actions on Gaza were being recorded worldwide, Switzerland had adopted a neutral position on the issue. Moreover, Switzerland had appealed to resolve this dispute by discussing on the two-state solution.

However, due to the violence started in Europe by Hamas supporters and extremists in the last few days, it has become clear that even neutral European countries like Switzerland cannot stay away from this conflict. Because of this, Switzerland seems to be forced to take a strong stand against Hamas’ terrorism.

Furthermore, Switzerland’s Federal Assembly may take a month to enact a law after its Parliament passes it. Only then will it be possible to take action on every Hamas activity in Switzerland. It is being claimed that, like the UK and France, Switzerland will also take action against those who raise pro-Hamas slogans.

Meanwhile, the international businesses of the terrorist organisation Hamas are linked to the Swiss bank. Therefore, the media has reported that Switzerland’s action may directly impact Hamas’ financial transactions and trade. Moreover, this will cause huge damage to Hamas and can be a wake-up call for other terrorist organisations standing against Israel.
