On Thursday, terrorists had carried out a fierce attack in the Mopti province of Burkina Faso. The military unit deployed in the Diongani area was targeted in this attack. Six soldiers were killed and several others were injured in the attack. Just three days after this, an attack was carried out on a military base in central Mali.

More than 25 soldiers killed in terrorist attacks in MaliA massive attack was launched on the Sokolo Military camp, in central Mali, near the Mauritania border, on Sunday morning. More than 100 terrorists entered the base riding on motorbikes. While entering the base, they opened fire, ensuring that the soldiers are not able to retreat. The attack lasted for nearly 2 hours. 25 soldiers from the base were killed and five were seriously injured. Some terrorists were also killed during the encounter. The officials informed that the terrorists succeeded in taking the dead bodies of their comrades. The military informed that the terrorists decamped with a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the base.

Two weeks ago, the terrorists had attacked the United Nations’ military base in Mali. 20 soldiers had been injured in this attack. Soldiers from both Mali and France were deployed at the base. The use of rockets by terrorists in the attack was significant. A few days before this attack, IS had carried out a terror attack in Nigeria, killing 20 soldiers.

Given these successive major attacks, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a special meeting with the countries in the Sahel region. The announcement of additional deployment was made in this very meeting. France already has 4,500 soldiers deployed in this region. But the terrorists are attacking the military bases of both the Sahel countries and France. This has severely rocked the actions and campaigns carried out by the countries in the Sahel region.

A few days ago, the United Nations’ envoy had pointed out that the terrorist attacks in the Sahel region have increased fivefold. The envoy also claimed that more than 4,000 people were killed in the terror attacks in the Sahel region alone, in 2019.
