Russian President Putin's visit to Middle East raises US concerns

Riyadh/Abu Dhabi – Analysts have claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to UAE and Saudi Arabia, two countries in the Middle East region, will raise concerns for the US. Due to this visit, the media is focusing on underlining Russia’s position as an important power with influence in the Middle East region. At the same time, the leaders of Estonia have criticized the claims of Western countries of having isolated Russia, as these have also been proved hollow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reached Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Wednesday. During this visit, he was given a 21-gun salute. Also, the UAE Air Force put up an attractive display and raised the Russian national flag in the sky. Analysts have drawn attention to the discussion with the UAE head of state and his subsequent statement on maintaining cooperation with Russia.

UAE and Saudi Arabia, both countries in the Middle East, are US allies. On the background of the Ukraine war, the US and European countries added pressure on these two countries to force the governments to impose sanctions on Russia and increase cooperation with them. However, by merely making promises in this regard, both countries maintained trade and economic cooperation with Russia. Apart from this, despite a warrant being issued against Putin, both the countries ignored it and welcomed him warmly.

These incidents reflect the changes taking place in the equations of the global system. Russia’s influence is increasing in the Middle East. ‘How to respond to Western influence is also likely to be discussed during the recent visit’, Estonian MP Mark Michelson claimed. Michelson drew attention to the respect that Putin received in a country like the UAE, which even the US President did not receive.

The daily ‘The Epoch Times’ said President Putin’s Middle East tour has proved claims of Russia’s isolation false. Putin’s advisor, Yuri Ushakov, has said that Putin’s Saudi visit was a big message for the Western community. The daily has also drawn attention to the fact that after the meeting between Putin and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman praised the coordination between the two countries and said it had helped in ending the tension in the Middle East.
