Israel arrests Jordanian member of parliament – serious allegation of Gold and weapons smuggling

Tel Aviv/ Amman – Israel’s customs department detained a Jordanian member of the parliament on smuggling charges. The Israeli authorities announced that the arrest was related to smuggling Gold and weapons into Israel. Israel revealed the evidence in front of the media. Jordan has accepted the position of non-answer to the government of Israel in this smuggling case. Besides, differences have already arisen between Israel and Jordan over the issue of Palestine. In such a situation, the differences between the two countries will be predicted to intensify due to this issue.

Two days ago, Jordanian member of the parliament, Imad al-Adwan, entered Israel through the Allenby Crossing. The customs officials posted here got information about Adwan’s possession of weapons. Israeli customs authorities do not have the authority to search any member of parliament of any country. But the customs officials took action after getting reliable information that Adwan was smuggling weapons. At this time, Adwan smuggled 100 kg of Gold, 12 long-range guns, 12 Zig pistols and 167 Glock pistols from Adwan.

The Allenby Crossing is just five kilometres from the Palestinian-controlled city of Jericho. Adwan is a supporter of the terrorist organization Hamas. Earlier, Adwan supported Hamas’s anti-Israel activities. Also, it was provoked that Israel is our enemy and the Palestinians should resist it. It is suspected that Adwan, who entered Israel in such a situation, was smuggling arms for Hamas supporters. A member of parliament in Jordan called for Adwan’s release. But the Jordanian government has refused to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, relations between Israel and Jordan have strained over the past few months. King Abdullah II of Jordan has contacted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over the violence at the compound of the Jerusalem mosque. King Abdullah said every Muslim must stand against Israel’s aggression. A few days ago, a discussion was held between the leaders of Iran and Jordan to establish cooperation. In such a situation, the arrest of a member of the Jordanian Parliament by Israel becomes a noteworthy incident.
