Washington: – US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland warned, that Israel should not provide a haven to the dirty Russian billionaires funding the Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has declared a war against Ukraine. Instead, Ukraine and the international front would welcome Israel’s stance if it sanctioned Russia. Reports are being received that Russian billionaires are moving to Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to save themselves from the sanctions imposed by the western countries. So far, Israel and UAE have adopted a neutral stance regarding the war. Thus, the United States has issued this warning to Israel.
Moreover, the United States and its allies like European countries, Australia and Japan have intensified sanctions against Russia. The United States and European countries are warning that harsher sanctions will be imposed against Russia in the coming times. Despite this, Israel and UAE, US allies in the Middle East, have not taken a stance against Russia. Israel has even refused to arm Ukraine in the war against Russia and this has not gone down well with the Biden administration.
While speaking to an Israeli news channel, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland expressed the displeasure of the Biden administration over the Israeli stance. By saying that Israel should not become a haven for the Russian billionaires providing funds to President Putin in his war against Ukraine, Nuland pointed to the reports being published in the media. It is claimed that 14 private Russian jets have landed in Israel over the last ten days.
An Israeli news channel had said that these flights, which originated from the Russian capital Moscow and St Petersburg, landed in Tel Aviv on different days. The news channel did not reveal any details regarding the passengers on these flights. But the news channels had predicted a possibility that Russian billionaires have taken refuge in Israel. Israel’s government’s policy is not to comment on media reports. Therefore, the Israeli government has avoided reacting to this report.
Meanwhile, Israel has proposed to mediate between Russia and Ukraine and suggested that the talks could be held in Jerusalem. Russia has welcomed the mediation offer, but the US officials have warned that the Israeli efforts for mediation are not enough for the Biden administration.
