Russian military deployment near the Ukraine border has created major tension in the region. It is claimed that Russia has deployed at least 85,000 soldiers near the Ukraine border. Russia has also kept the missile and air defence systems in a state of readiness. Photographs and videos of Russian tanks moving on the roads in the eastern sectors have been published in the Ukrainian media. Russia has dismissed these claims saying that there is no truth in them. But Russia has already warned that there will be severe repercussions if the Ukrainian military took action against Russian supporters in Donbas.

Russia also warned that if the situation festered in Donbas, the western powers backing Ukraine will also be responsible. Russia had appealed that Ukraine and the western countries should abide by the Minsk ceasefire agreement signed, in 2014, following the division of Crimea. Russia warned that it would be in the United States’ interest that its destroyers entering the Black Sea keep away from Ukraine.

A reaction has been received from the United States regarding this. White House informed that US President Joe Biden held a telephonic discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin. While speaking on the Ukraine issue, US President Biden warned that the United States was committed to the sovereignty and regional integrity of Ukraine. Simultaneously, the White House said that the US President demanded that Russia withdraw the military deployment from the part of Crimea acquired in 2014 and near the Ukraine border.

White House claimed that the US President also reprimanded the Russian President over the intrusions into the US cyberspace and interference in the US elections. Biden threatened that the United States would respond to the Russian activities to secure its interests. White House also clarified that President Biden Proposed, to the Russian President, to hold a meeting in a third country. Russia has still not responded to the proposal.

Meanwhile, President Biden has adopted an aggressive stand against Russia ever since he became the United States President. Only last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had issued a warning to Russia over Ukraine. Whereas, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin announced the additional military deployment in Germany, underlining the Russian threat.
