Over the last few days, the United States has made aggressive claims about the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Officials and media from the western countries, including the United States, have warned that Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine at any time. A few days ago, Der Spiegel, the German daily, reported that Russia planned to attack Ukraine on February 16. The daily claimed that the report was based on the information given by the intelligence agencies of the western countries.

Moreover, in his social media post, the Ukrainian President created a sensation saying Russia would attack Ukraine on February 16. At the same time, he also said that the day would be celebrated in Ukraine as ‘Day of Unity’. But this statement indicates changes in the actual situation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the Ukraine issue on Tuesday. President Putin stated that Russia does not want war in the following press conference. At the same time, he also claimed that negotiations would continue with the western countries over missiles and other issues. Putin also indicated that cooperation with Germany would be increased further as Germany is an important partner country.

Earlier, Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the Ukraine Security Council, had stated that the possibility of a Russian attack is very thin. Danilov said ‘We are fully aware of what is happening today on the territory of our country, we are aware of the risks, but the situation is absolutely under control. Moreover, we do not believe today that a large-scale attack by the Russian Federation could take place on the 16th or 17th of February. We don’t expect it, we don’t see it.’

Amid these statements by Danilov, it is being said that Russia has started to withdraw its military troops from the Ukraine border. Russian government news agency has published a report regarding this. NATO and Ukraine have taken a cautious stand on the report and have reacted that the report cannot be believed unless concrete proof is presented. Before this report of the Russian withdrawal, the United States had warned that Russian troops were making moves preparing to launch an attack.
