ISI responsible for Peshawar blast - serious allegation by senior leaders

Islamabad: India was accused of a suicide attack in a place of worship in the vicinity of Peshawar Police Station, killing more than 100 people. Likewise, the Taliban regime in Afghanistan was also a suspect. However, now there are allegations against the ISI, Pakistan’s intelligence unit. Ruling party leader Maryam Nawaz has held former ISI chief Faiz Hamid responsible for the blast. The Peshawar police have taken to the street for protest and have claimed ISI to be behind the blast.

It is evident by the allegation of Maryam Nawaz and Peshawar police that the ISI is now involved in perpetrating activities against their own country. One hundred and one people were killed in the attack, which provoked a strong reaction across all sections of Pakistan. The Taliban has rebutted Pakistani media and leaders who had immediately blamed India and the Taliban for the attack. Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had denied any involvement of the Taliban regime in the Peshawar attack.

Muttaqi said that Afghanistan is not a hotbed of terrorism; if it were, the effect of terrorism would have been felt in other neighbouring countries. Hence Pakistan needs to introspect about the terrorist attacks happening only in Pakistan and thoroughly investigate them. Muttaqi pointed out that suicide attacks do not cause damage of this scale. Hence there must be more to this. Peshawar police have taken to the streets and informed that they had found information related to the attacks and have warned of mass resignation to expose the conspirators behind the attack.

The opposition party in Pakistan is demanding elections. The Peshawar police have indicated that the attack was planned to avoid an election at this time. Maryam Nawaz and Peshawar police accuse former ISI chief Faiz Hamid of orchestrating the attack. As the head of ISI, Faiz Hamid had illegally supported and aided Imran Khan. He was also once the corps commander in Peshawar; hence was influential in carrying out such an attack, as claimed by Maryam Nawaz.
