Deadly suicide attack in Pakistan's Peshawar claims 50 livesAt 1:40 PM on Monday, a terrorist of Tehrik detonated a suicide blast in a place of prayer on the premises of Peshawar Police Station. It is considered the safest area in Peshawar. A police officer has said that there were 300 to 400 policemen at this place at the time of the suicide blast. Therefore, there are indications that the number of victims of this explosion is much higher than what is being revealed. The intensity of the blast was so huge that even the wall of the place of worship collapsed. It was speculated that some were trapped under the debris.

Tehrik claimed that the victims of the blast included the largest number of police personnel. A Tehrik commander has claimed while accepting responsibility for the suicide attack. A few weeks ago, the ceasefire between the Pakistan army and the Tehrik ended. Tehrik leaders then ordered their supporters to target Pakistan’s army, paramilitary forces and police. After that, Tehrik started heavy attacks on the Pakistan army and police. The Pakistan government and the army had announced strict action against Tehrik and claimed to defeat the terrorists. Also, the government of Pakistan had appealed that the Taliban in Afghanistan should stop the Tehrik. But the Taliban in Afghanistan are angry with the policies of Pakistan and the leaders of the Taliban in Afghanistan have started criticizing that this country is dancing to the tune of the US.

The Taliban in Afghanistan seem to be preparing to teach Pakistan a lesson through Tehrik in such a situation. This seems to have led to an increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan. However, in these attacks, not Pakistani nationals but army and security forces personnel are being targeted. As a result, the Pakistani government’s and the military’s concerns seem to have increased. Also, these terrorist attacks have shaken the internal politics of Pakistan.

Peshawar is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Imran Khan’s ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rules the province’. Pakistan’s Shehbaz Sharif government has been criticized for failing to prevent terror attacks. While Imran Khan and his colleagues have been claiming that it is a failure of the Government of Pakistan.
