Mogadishu: At least 35 people have been killed, and more than 70 people have been injured in the suicide blasts carried out by the terrorist organisation Al-Shabaab, affiliated with Al-Qaeda, in Somalia. The attack took place in Hiran province in central Somalia. A few days ago, the Somali Army and local armed groups had taken over a comprehensive anti-terrorist campaign against al-Shabaab in the Hiran area. Despite this, local media claim Al-Shabaab has demonstrated its influence by conducting two suicide blasts.

It is said that the blast killed some civilians, some military officers, and soldiers. It injured 72 people, and many were shifted to hospitals in the capital of Mogadishu. After the explosion on Wednesday, Al-Shabaab launched a terrorist attack on a village in Hirshabelle province in central Somalia.

Moreover, the early Friday attack killed at least six people and injured many others. Last week, the army and local armed groups liberated the village from the control of Al-Shabaab. However, Al-Shabaab has now taken control of that area and claimed to have captured army vehicles and weapon stockpiles. Over the past decade, the Somali army and the African Union launched an extensive campaign to eradicate Al-Shabaab’s influence from the country’s urban areas. However, Al-Shabaab has still been active in many parts of rural areas, and it has consistently surfaced that the operations to destroy it have failed. In August last year, the government of Somalia announced that it was waging a total war against Al-Shabaab. But just two months after this announcement, 116 people were killed in a terrible terrorist attack in the capital Mogadishu.

Besides, both Africa and the US have assisted in the counter-terrorism campaign in Somalia. However, the last three days’ attacks have shown that Al-Shabaab has maintained its influence.
