Washington: Despite billions of dollars in arms supplies, claims have emerged that Ukraine has a shortage of weapons in its anti-Russian conflict. To eliminate this shortage of Ukraine, the United States has started preparing to send Iran’s weapons to Ukraine. Last year, the US and France seized many Iranian weapons in operation in Yemen. Besides, a leading US daily has claimed that the Biden administration was considering a proposal to send the same weapons to Ukraine.
Last year, the US and France seized a large cache of weaponry, including rifles and rounds of ammunition, in Yemen’s maritime area operations. According to the rules of the United Nations, it has been mandatory to destroy the said stock or to keep it safe. But the Biden administration has started moves to find loopholes from it. Moreover, it has been planned to send more than five thousand assault rifles, 1.6 million small arms ammunition rounds, anti-tank rockets and seven thousand fuses to Ukraine through this medium. The Wall Street Journal has reported on the plans.
Furthermore, the US and European countries accuse Iran of supplying drones and other weapons to Russia. Against this backdrop, moves to mutually send a cache of arms captured in an operation to Ukraine draw attention.
