These organisations have fired a salvo of criticism that this is not the right way to resolve the situation.

Moreover, Freedom Convoy agitation has been carried out by the truckers in Canada since the end of last month. Cognisance of this agitation started to protest against the new regulations imposed by the Canadian government, given the Coronavirus pandemic has been taken on the international level. Besides, similar agitations have started even in the United States and Europe. Although the agitation is being conducted peacefully, the Trudeau government is making frantic efforts to crush the agitation. Since the last few days, additional police forces have been pressed into service. But despite this, the agitators have refused to relent.

Therefore, Prime Minister Trudeau has taken this extreme step of implementing the Emergencies Act. Before this, he had scoffed at the agitators, referring to them as a ‘Small notorious Group’. He also claimed that this group was posing a threat to the security of Canadian citizens. Now Prime Minister Trudeau seems to have started efforts to crush the agitation using the authority given by the Emergency Act. But his decision is facing a lot of opposition.

Four provinces, including Alberta and Quebec, have refused to implement the emergency Act. The leading volunteer group Canadian Civil Liberties Association, also has fired a salvo of criticism on Prime Minister Trudeau. The group has accused that the requisite criteria have not been fulfilled before implementing the Act.

Tucker Carlson, an anchor on the Fox News channel from the United States, lashed out that Prime Minister Trudeau has suspended democracy and imposed dictatorship. Before this, in 1970, Pierre Trudeau, the then Prime Minister and father of the current Prime Minister, had imposed this Act to bring the situation in Quebec province under control.

Meanwhile, reports have been received that the security agencies in the Alberta province have seized the stock of a weapon from the Freedom Convoy agitators. It is also said that 13 people have been detained in this connection.
