Russian President Vladimir Putin appoints Chechen leader Kadyrov as Colonel General

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, to the rank of Colonel General in the Russian Army. Last month, Kadyrov criticized the Russian military’s withdrawal from Kharkiv and called for a policy change. While this withdrawal was underway, Russia held a referendum in four regions of Ukraine and announced that those regions would be annexed to Russia. President Putin also warned that Russia would use all its might to secure the Ukrainian regions that have become a part of Russia. Russia had also started deploying 300,000 additional troops for the mission in Ukraine. After withdrawing from Kharkiv, Russia launched significant missile strikes to warn Ukraine of possible consequences. Some analysts claimed that these events indicated President Putin was restructuring the Ukraine campaign.

Moreover, Kadyrov, a staunch supporter of President Putin and his campaign in Ukraine, appears to have been promoted in the military. The large and advanced defence systems provided by the United States to Ukraine prove that the United States is directly involved in the conflict.
