Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, to the rank of Colonel General in the Russian Army. Last month, Kadyrov criticized the Russian military’s withdrawal from Kharkiv and called for a policy change. It was then announced that two battalions from the Chechen Republic were being deployed in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. Kadyrov also claimed that he was sending his three sons to fight on the Ukrainian front. In 2020, Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic, was promoted to the rank of Major in the Russian army. His appointment as a lieutenant was announced in March after the start of the Ukraine campaign. Kadyrov has since been promoted to the rank of colonel General to make him more active in the Ukraine campaign.

Kadyrov said that President Putin had appointed him as a colonel General by special order and this promotion was a matter of honour for him. He underlined his role in the Ukraine conflict by saying that he would do whatever possible to end the special military operation in Ukraine at the earliest.
