Mossad carried out actions to stop Pakistan acquiring nuclear weapons

Bern – A Swiss daily claimed ‘Israeli intelligence agency Mossad had acted in the 1980 decade to stop Pakistan from acquiring nuclear weapons. Mossad carried out blasts in the German and Swiss companies suspected of assisting the Pakistani nuclear program.’ At the same time, the daily also claimed that AQ Khan, the father of the Pakistan nuclear program, had made efforts four decades ago to assist Iran in its nuclear program.

The Swiss daily ‘Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ)’ published this report. In the decade of 1980, German and Swiss suspects and companies were to supply necessary technology to Pakistan for nuclear weapons development. The daily said that Israel was grappled with the fear that Pakistan would become the first Islamic country to possess a nuclear weapon and be a major threat to its security in the scenario. Against this background, Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, carried out blasts in the German and Swiss companies. However, no casualties were reported in the saboteur activities carried out by Mossad suspects.

Swiss historian Adrian Hanni had claimed that Mossad was behind the activities. The daily also reported that no links or evidence were found supporting the claim. NZZ claimed that panic was created in the German and Swiss companies following the blasts.

The daily pointed out that a meeting was held between Pakistan nuclear scientist AQ Khan and Masood Naraghi, the chief of the Iranian nuclear program, before the blasts. Israeli media have highlighted the news. But the Israeli government agencies have not reacted to the report. Negotiations are being held, in Vienna, regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
