Jerusalem: The drones and missile attacks on the Saudi oil infrastructure has raised alarm causing Israel to mull boosting its air defence systems. A decision to that effect was taken in the first Security Cabinet meeting presided over by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. Only a few hours ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu appealed in the Israeli parliament that funds worth billions of Shekels would be required to fight Iran.
Israel has deployed three advanced air defence systems near Syria, the Gaza Strip and Lebanon borders. These include the Iron Dome, Arrow and David’s Sling air defence systems. Among them, the Iron Dome has successfully neutralised the short-range rocket attacks originating from the Gaza Strip. However, after the Saudi oil attacks, the need to modernise the air defence systems has risen once again.
The United States has announced the deployment of new air and drone defence systems in Saudi as well. Given the developments, the decision to strengthen Israel‘s air defence systems was taken in Prime Minister Netanyahu’s state security cabinet.
Israeli analysts have claimed the increased possibility of attacks on the state’s nuclear projects as also other critical infrastructure after the attacks on the Saudi oil facilities. Given the recent events, the analysts have demanded to bolster the Israeli air defence systems.
