Rome: As per the World Food Program (WFP) report of the United Nations, nearly 340 million people worldwide are said to be facing a terrible hunger crisis. The severity of this crisis has intensified due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. While informing the UN Security Council in this regard, senior officer Martin Griffiths warned that the world would likely face a tsunami of hunger coupled with a crisis due to severe droughts. The WFP also notes that climate change, Coronavirus and soaring inflation are additional factors responsible for the terrible hunger crisis.

However, the Russia-Ukraine war, which started in February, has primarily disrupted the food supply chain causing the situation in Africa and Asian countries to deteriorate.

In the last two years, many countries in Africa and Asia have been experiencing food shortages due to the Coronavirus pandemic, economic crisis, and drought. With the addition of the Russia-Ukraine war, the situation has become alarming. The WFP report highlights that nearly 830 million people go hungry to bed daily. The report mentions that 345 million people are facing the threat of starvation, while more than fifty million are facing severe drought. It was also warned that the countries of Africa, Central America, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen had become hotspots of the hunger crisis. A total of 82 countries are caught in a terrible hunger crisis worldwide. An appeal has therefore been made to the international community for aid to bail them out of this challenging situation.
