Foreign Ministers of Saudi & Iran visit China – discuss mutual restart of bilateral trade, embassies

Saudi Arabia and IranBeijing: The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, met in China to discuss normalizing relations between the two countries and start trade and embassy services. There are reports that the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, is expected to visit Saudi Arabia soon.

Last month, China led the mediation between Saudi Arabia and Iran. National security advisors of both countries meet in Beijing. Tensions built between the neighbouring countries since 2016 were starting to ease recently. As planned in the Beijing meeting last month, foreign ministers arrived in China on Thursday to discuss restarting the embassy services with the mediation of Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang.  

It is claimed that the embassy services would start after the visit of the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, to Saudi Arabia. Iran extended an invitation to Saudi King Salman to their country.
