Beijing/Moscow: A major naval exercise between China and Russia will begin on Wednesday in the East China Sea area, near Japan’s maritime limits. China-Russia naval exercises near the Japanese marine regionThe Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese Army announced the information about the naval exercise between the two countries. The war exercise has been scheduled to start from Shanghai in China on Wednesday and will continue till Thursday next week. China informed that this exercise was named Maritime Cooperation 2022, and the leading warships of both countries will participate in it. It will include Russia’s guided missile warship ‘Varyag’ and three destroyers. China has not announced the names of its warships. But it will consist of two destroyers, two patrol boats, a diesel-powered submarine and a multi-purpose auxiliary vessel, China informed.

Moreover, a statement released by Russia’s defence ministry said the exercise would enhance naval cooperation between the two countries and establish peace in the Asia-Pacif. Besides, penetrating air targets will be practised using missiles and anti-aircraft guns on warships. The Russian Ministry of Defense explained that preparations for destroyer and anti-submarine warfare would be made on this occasion. US journalists criticise that while North Korea’s missile tests have raised regional tensions, the Sino-Russian naval exercises add to the tension.

This has become the second war exercise held by Russia with the Chinese navy since the start of the Ukraine conflict. A warship exercise between Russia and China was held just a few weeks ago. Russian President Vladimir Putin was present to inspect the war exercises held near the Kuril Islands. After the start of the Ukraine conflict, the US and European countries have put pressure on the countries of the Indo-Pacific region to take a stand against Russia. In such a situation, Chinese and Gulf media say Russia has warned the West by organising a second consecutive exercise with China.
