China remembers international laws after Indian ban on Chinese apps

New Delhi: China has remembered international laws after the Indian government imposed a ban on Chinese apps. China said that the Indian action is a blatant violation of the rules laid down by the World Trade Organisation (WTO). China has reacted by stating that the Indian action does not fall in the purview of even the ordinary laws of international trade. It is the responsibility of the Indian government to protect the legal rights of foreign investors, including the Chinese.

On Monday, the union government banned 59 Chinese apps. The security agencies reported that these apps are a threat to national security. There is anger raging in the Indian population against China, following the Chinese betrayal in Ladakh, and the campaign against Chinese products has intensified. The demand was increasing that the Indian government also should retaliate against China on the economic level. The government started delivering jolts to China by cancelling the contracts awarded to the Chinese companies. The government has followed that up with a ban on 59 Chinese apps. The number of users registered on these apps, from India, is much higher as compared to the other countries in the world. At the same time, these companies managing these apps earn billions of rupees from these apps. Therefore, this also is believed to be a major jolt to China.

China is perturbed following this action. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman reminded of the international trade laws. China has demanded that the Indian government should protect the legal rights of foreign investors. The ban on Chinese apps is a matter of concern, and we are collecting more information regarding the issue, is what Zhao Lijian, the foreign ministry spokesman said.

At the same time, the reaction has been received from the Chinese embassy in India. Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman, Ji Rong, opposed the Indian action and has said that the Indian action is discriminatory. Rong said that none of the reasons, given by the Indian government, are acceptable and added that Chinese companies and investors abide by the rules and regulations. China has said that the Indian government’s decision is not only detrimental to the relations between the two countries but also is not in the interest of the customers.

It is clear that the Indian government did not expect such direct action. Therefore, now, China is citing international trade regulations. India has to bear a massive trade deficit with China. India opened the gates for Chinese investors and companies. China complicated the import regulations to ensure that the Indian companies are not able to make considerable exports to China. India has objected to the trade deficit from time to time, which has been ignored by China. But now the demand is that the government should retaliate against China and deliver a telling blow. China has realised that it will have to bear huge losses, given the anger brewing in the Indian population, against China. Therefore, China is now citing international laws.
