President Aleksandar Vucic’s party wins majority in Serbia’s elections

Belgrade: President Aleksandar Vucic’s party has won a majority in the parliament and local elections in Serbia. President Vucic is known to be a leader close to Russia. After the mass shooting incident in the Serbian capital in May, a large demonstration was held against Vucic’s government. The US and the European Union warned the Serbian government not to maintain friendly relations with Russia. However, President Vucic rejected it and aggressively accused it of being an attempt to carry out a ‘colour revolution’ in the country.

President Aleksandar Vucic's party wins majority in Serbia's electionsOn Sunday, voting took place for 250 seats in Serbia’s Parliament and local council seats across the country. After this, the results of the counting of votes, which started in the night, started coming out. According to this, President Vucic and his ‘Serbian Progressive Party’ are said to be leading on 128 seats with 47 votes. During this time, information has come out that the main opposition ‘SPN’ party, won 65 seats with 23 percent votes. Local media reported that Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party had won the local council and the mayor’s seat in the capital, Belgrade.

After the trend of election results became clear, the opposition has alleged rigging in voting and counting. A call was given for massive demonstrations on Monday evening to question the government party on this issue. Because of this, there are indications that the Serbian opposition will try to destabilize Vucic through these demonstrations in the future.

The countries formed after the breakup of Yugoslavia include Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Kosovo. The province of Kosova, which separated from Serbia, has yet to be approved by all countries as an independent country. Western countries, including the US, are continuously putting pressure on Serbia on this issue. This pressure has been increased on the background of the Russia-Ukraine war. Referring to this, Serbia’s President Vucic mentioned the attempt to carry out a colour revolution a few months ago.

In the last few decades, the US has started major efforts to overthrow the regimes in Europe, especially in the countries that broke away from the Russian Federation (Soviet Russia). Demonstrations were initiated in various ways through the opposition, student and youth organizations and voluntary groups. In countries like Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan, demonstrations against the government were initiated, and a coup was carried out. This demonstration is known as the ‘Color Revolution’. It has become clear through the media that the US administration and intelligence agencies are behind this. Some former US officials and leaders have also confessed to this.
