Athens: Even if Turkey provoked Greece, it would not fall into this trap; because Greece wants peace. However, Greece warned that if Turkey tried to undermine Greece’s security; it would not hesitate to retaliate. Turkey had threatened to attack Greece overnight. Greece has hence, said this in response.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to use all force against Greece. But last week, at the meeting of the European countries held in the Czech Republic, President Erdogan threatened Greece in front of the leaders of the European countries. Erdogan warned that Turkey’s warnings that talks with Greece are impossible should be taken seriously. Analysts claimed that the President of Turkey had threatened Greece and the United States, which supports Greece.
Within hours of Erdogan’s threat, there were reports of Turkish drones infiltrating Greece’s maritime territory. Greece alleged that the first drone travelled within the territory of Kinaros, while the second drone travelled within the territory of the island of Trianisia. Earlier too, Turkey had sent patrol boats in the sea and airspace of Greece. Therefore, Turkey, which has threatened Greece, has been criticized for violating Greece’s airspace.
Greece reprimanded Turkey for threatening directly at the meeting of European countries. Greek government spokesman Yiannis Economou warned that Turkey should not risk underestimating Greece, which has adopted a peace policy. Greece’s spokesman Economou warned that Turkey’s anti-Greece threats or actions would not go without a response from Greece. Economou accused Turkey of intensifying its actions against Greece since 2020. Economou blames Turkey for threatening Greece’s security by using refugees’ skins as weapons.
Meanwhile, in the past few days, both countries have increased their military activities in the Aegean Sea, a point of contention between Greece and Turkey. Turkey criticized Greece for deploying US-gifted military vehicles to the islands. Greece accused Turkey’s warplanes and patrol boats of challenging its sovereignty. The dispute between the two NATO member countries raises tensions in the Mediterranean.
