This winter could be 'Winter of Death' for the unvaccinated: US President Joe Biden

Washington/London: – US President Joe Biden has warned that this winter will be a ‘Winter of Death’ for those who have not been vaccinated, as the spread of the ‘Omicron variant’ is on the rise. Experts in European countries have echoed Biden’s warning, and the number of corona deaths in the United Kingdom could rise to 5,000 per day. Germany has expressed concern that the spread of the Omicron variant could be the fifth major wave in Germany. At the same time, a new report by British researchers has revealed that Omicron is not milder than the Delta variant.

The Omicron variant of the Coronavirus, discovered in South Africa last month, is growing rapidly. The number of patients in the United States and Europe has risen sharply, indicating a new wave. More than a whopping 2.5 million patients have been admitted to hospitals in the United Kingdom in the last three days. In the next two days, the number of patients seen daily is expected to go up to a hundred thousand. The number of deaths due to Coronavirus has also gone above 100. The total number of patients in the United Kingdom has reached 12 million and around 150,000 people have died.

The number of patients in the United States has crossed the one million mark. More than one lakh patients have been registered in the United States on the last five successive days and more than 170,000 cases were reported on Friday. The death toll from the Coronavirus in 24 hours has risen to 2,000, with more than 800,000 people killed so far. The Omicron variant is signalling that this will increase further and President Biden’s warning comes as a wake-up call.

A booster dose is recommended to prevent the Omicron crisis. However, there are still large numbers of people in the United States who have not received even the first dose of the Corona vaccine. Expressing displeasure over this, President Biden warned that this winter would cause death and illness for those who have not been vaccinated. Experts in other parts of the world have also made statements endorsing Biden’s warning.

Neil Ferguson, a leading expert in the UK, has recommended a stringent lockdown. If that doesn’t happen, Ferguson has warned that there is a risk of the death toll rising to 5,000 a day from Omicron. About 15,000 patients with the Omicron variant have been found in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, according to the British Imperial College London, there is no evidence that the Omicron is milder than the earlier Delta variant. German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has expressed a concern that the wave caused by Omicron could be huge. In contrast, Leading vaccine maker Pfizer predicts that the Corona epidemic will impact by 2024.
