Ukraine conflict will escalate further with US intervention – warns Russian Ambassador in the wake of Zelensky’s US visit

Washington/Kyiv: Anatoly Antonov, Russia’s Ambassador to the United States, warned that US interference in Ukraine would further escalate the conflict, mocking that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States was a Hollywood-style trip. The Russian Ambassador also threatened that everyone knew what would happen to the US-provided Patriot missiles and the soldiers deployed. Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov and the State Department have strongly criticised Zelensky’s visit to the United States.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a short trip to the United States. On this occasion, he met US President Joe Biden and discussed it with him. Also he even addressed the US Congress. At this time, he reminded that America had defeated Nazi Germany in the Second World War and warned there should be no compromise in the conflict against Russia. The Ukrainian President claimed that the US’s financial assistance and arms supply to Ukraine was not ‘charity’ but an investment for global security and democracy. During a joint press conference between Biden and Zelensky, the US announced a new $1.85 billion arms deal to Ukraine, including Patriot missiles.

After this announcement, the value of US military assistance given to Ukraine has reached 20 billion dollars. President Zelensky also said that Ukraine expects more arms from the United States in the future. Although the United States and European countries have promised a continuous supply of arms to Ukraine, there are indications that this supply will decrease from next year. Ukraine’s struggle against Russia could feel a strong blow if this happens. Analysts claim that Zelensky visited the US during the conflict to avoid this. However, US sources have also indicated that the Biden administration has said Ukraine would not get more advanced systems after the Patriot.

Russian government spokesman Dmitri Peskov retorted that Zelensky’s visit and the announcement of US arms support show that the two countries are no longer interested in establishing peace. Besides, Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, warned that Zelensky’s visit shows that the Western alliance was preparing a long-term struggle against Russia.
