Quetta: The death toll in the suicide attack on an election campaign rally in Pakistan has exceeded 159, while more than 300 have been injured in it. Siraj Raisani, the candidate of the “Balochistan Awami Party” (BAP) and brother of former Chief Minister of Baluchistan province, Mohammed Aslam Raisani, has also been killed in this attack. The terrorist organization, IS has accepted responsibility for the attack. Questions are being raised about Raisani’s security being cut down before the attack.
Elections will be held in Pakistan on the 25th July. There seems to be an increase in the attacks on election campaign rallies as the date approaches. There have been four attacks in one week targeting major leaders and campaign rallies. Two days ago, an attack on a campaign meeting of the ‘Awami National Party’ (ANP) in Peshawar, killed 20 people including the chief leader, Haroon Bilour. The Taliban had accepted responsibility for this attack.
There have been strong reactions in Pakistan to the attack on Raisani’s campaign rally. All the major leaders of all parties have condemned the attack. Chief of the Pakistani military, General Qamar Javed Bajwa has also expressed deep regret over this attack.
