The former Prime Minister has stated that he returned to Pakistan to sacrifice his life for the future generations. At the same time, while speaking during his journey, he alleged that the voice of the media in Pakistan was being suppressed. He appealed that despite this, the media should show the gumption to take a strong position against this suppression. Nawaz Sharif’s message to the country was that the Pakistani people should unite against the injustice and take their nation on the path of progress.

Nawaz Sharif, pakistan, rawalpindiAs soon as he arrived at the Lahore airport on Friday, Nawaz Sharif was arrested and incarcerated in a jail in Rawalpindi. Due to this arrest, the public sympathy towards Sharif is on the rise and it is being claimed that this could turn the tables in the forthcoming Pakistani elections. This has also agitated the influential Pakistani military. Hence, there is a spate of arrests of Sharif supporters since the last few days, in which 600 people are said to have been arrested so far.

With the impending elections in Pakistan, terrorist attacks on the campaign rallies, leading to a large number of deaths has become a matter of grave concern. Analysts are afraid that in such a situation, Sharif’s arrest could worsen the instability in the country even further, leading to a state of chaos. Some of the analysts also feel that the ruling of the Anti-corruption Court of Pakistan against Sharif might not be sustained by the High Court.

Hence, the current environment is said to be in favour of Sharif and the anti-Sharif journalists are upset that the Pakistani military who has been acting against Sharif, has infact turned him into a hero.
