Washington – The expansion of radical organizations and economic and social problems is leading to a severe disaster in the Sahel region of Africa. The international community has warned that the Sahel crisis could threaten the future of the African continent. In the last few months, the international community has expressed concern over the backdrop of attacks by terrorists and fundamentalists in Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Sudan.
The international community has failed to stop the youth from the Sahel region from taking up arms and joining extremist groups. This has led to increased violence in the region and the humanitarian crisis is getting worse. ‘The rise of violent extremism and the worsening of the humanitarian situation in the Sahel and the wider West African region is threatening the future of the entire African continent and all of us,’ European Union Ambassador to the US, Stavros Lambrinidis, warned.
