Afghan terrorists may infiltrate Russia via Kazakhstan: Dy. Secretary of Russian security council

Moscow: – Alexander Grebenkin, deputy secretary of Russian Security Council, warned, ‘The borders of the neighbouring countries of Afghanistan are under threat, given the anarchy and terrorism in that country. Taking advantage of this, terrorists and extremists will intrude into Russia via the central Asian countries and carry out attacks.’ Grebenkin pointed out that these terrorists can enter under cover of the immigrant influx.

It has been three months since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. It has been observed that the security situation in Afghanistan has been consistently deteriorating in this period. There has been an increase in the attacks by the terrorist organisation IS-Khorasan and the terrorists of IS-Khorasan are fighting the Taliban to take control of Afghanistan. The deputy chief of the Russian security council, Grebenkin, accused that this directly impacts the borders of the central Asian countries, neighbouring Afghanistan.

Grebenkin criticised, ‘Russia is monitoring the developments in Afghanistan very closely since the Taliban took control of the country. Russia has no expectations from this terrorist organisation.’ Grebenking warned ‘The socio-economic situation has degraded further in Afghanistan since the Taliban took control, increasing poverty. Taliban is executing its citizens. Therefore, the threat of uncontrolled migration and narcotic smuggling has increased to a great extent.’

Grebenkin expressed a concern ‘As a result of this instability, international terrorists and extremists will intrude into the central Asian countries under the disguise of immigrants. They will enter Russia through the Russia-Kazakhstan border and launch attacks.’ Grebenking pointed out while speaking to a Russian government newspaper that arms smuggling will also increase under cover of the immigrants. Grebenkin recalled that this warning was issued in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) meeting.

Meanwhile, over the last few weeks, Russia had taken the lead to negotiate with the Taliban for stability in Afghanistan. But now, Russia seems to be disillusioned. Over the last few days, Russia has been accusing Afghanistan of becoming a terrorist hub.
