Traditionally Afghanistan exports dry fruits and carpets. Afghanistan has rare earth mineral deposits worth more than a trillion dollars. Despite this, the economy of Afghanistan has been in complete chaos for the last five decades. The country is surviving exclusively on the aid received from the United States, European countries, and the World Bank.

Under such circumstances, the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August last year, having had enormous repercussions on the international level. The United States and other countries have cut off the aid provided to Afghanistan. The United States has stopped aid of $9.5 billion as the Taliban failed to form an inclusive government as per the agreement signed in Doha in 2020.

The United Nations has warned that nearly 8.7 million Afghans are facing starvation. Thus, it appealed to build a fund of $5 billion for Afghanistan. But Antonio Guterres, the General Secretary of the United Nations, confirmed that the international community has not yet responded.
