Washington/Beirut/Moscow: A US news agency has claimed Russia has been recruiting Palestinians from Lebanon camps for the campaign in Ukraine. The American news agency said a member of the embassy of Palestine in Lebanon and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah organisation took the initiative. So far, more than 300 Palestinians have been trained in Russia and deployed, the report noted. Last year, US media reported that the Wagner Group, a private military contractor based in Russia, recruited Afghan commandos, part of Afghanistan’s National Army.

Moreover, Western countries, including Ukraine, have claimed that the Russian Army has suffered huge casualties in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It has also been said that due to these casualties, Russia has implemented a new recruitment process in the Army and has increased the use of Chechen units and the Wagner Group. It had also surfaced that Russia had withdrawn some teams from military units deployed in Syria and other countries last year. The claim of recruiting Palestinians followed by Afghan commandos draws attention to this background. The report of the American private news agency, The Media Line, states that Palestinian youths have been recruited into the Russian Army and paid $350 per month. Young people from Ain al-Hilweh, the largest Palestinian camp in Lebanon, have been involved in this. Most youths were said to be members of Fatah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in Palestine. Besides, Lebanese sources have informed that those with skills in operating drones and the ability to fight Guerrilla warfare in urban areas were preferred.

So far, 300 Palestinians have received training in Russia and deployed on the Ukrainian front. Besides, the American news agency also claimed that a contingent of 100 people was ready in the Ain al-Hilweh camp. Furthermore, The Media Line has said that apart from the Palestinians, the soldiers of the Syrian Army have also been inducted into the Russian Army.
