Russian missiles target Ukraine’s military supply chain: Russian Defence Ministry

Moscow/Kyiv: Russia has strongly responded within a few hours of Ukraine’s drone strikes on its Russian bases. On Monday, Russia launched a barrage of missiles on several provinces, including the capital Kyiv. The Russian Defence Ministry informed that the attack was planned to target places and facilities which were a part of the military supply chain of the Ukrainian army. It was the eighth occasion in the past two months that Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine.

Russia responded strongly within a few hours by firing missiles at the capital Kyiv, along with Vinnytsia, Odesa, Sumy, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kirovograd, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. These attacks were carried out with the help of the Russian Navy and bombers. Around 70 missiles were said to have been used. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, 17 targets were identified by the Russian forces and the attacks conducted on all these targets were successful.

After this major attack by Russia, the power supply in the capital Kyiv and many other areas has been disrupted. Ukrainian authorities said a prolonged blackout was imposed in several cities. Local authorities claimed that the water supply was also cut off in some areas. The Ukrainian military also said some missiles from the Russian missile attack were shot down. A few days ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Russia was using dummy missiles.

In October, Russia launched a series of missile strikes against Ukraine. As the offensive campaign began, there were reports that Russia was running out of missile stockpiles. But denying these claims and reports, Russia launched missile attacks on Ukraine eight times in the last two months. Russia has demonstrated its military might through this. A few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin justified these missile attacks during a discussion with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Ukraine’s attack on the bridge in Crimea has forced Russia to launch missile attacks on infrastructure and other areas in Ukraine. President Putin explained that these attacks would continue in the future. Meanwhile, Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defence, has said that priority would be given to providing a missile defence system to Ukraine after these fresh Russian missile attacks.
