He held talks three times with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the last 24 hours. The Israeli Prime Minister announced that even if the possibility of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine has faded, Israel will continue to mediate between Russia and Ukraine. Israeli Prime Minister visits Russia amid Russian attacks on UkraineUkraine had appealed even earlier that Israel having friendly relations with Russia should hold talks with President Putin. Ukraine had even demanded military assistance from Israel while appealing for mediation for a ceasefire. Ukrainian military officials are openly demanding the Israeli air defence systems. Even the United States and Germany tried to pressurise Israel for this. But Israeli Prime Minister Bennett refused to arm Ukraine.

But Israel has initiated steps to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, and Prime Minister Naftali Bennett visited Russia on Saturday for this purpose. Prime Minister Bennett held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin for a good 3 hours. It is claimed that the current conflict and the Iranian nuclear deal were discussion topics. All the details of the discussions between the Russian President and the Israeli Prime Minister have not been revealed.

But after leaving Russia and before reaching Germany, Prime Minister Bennett held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. After holding talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Prime Minister Bennett once again called President Zelensky. After meeting French President Emmanuel Macron on his return journey, the Israeli prime minister talked again with the Ukrainian President.

The initiative taken by Israel for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine becomes noteworthy. The Israeli prime minister’s visit to Russia during wartime is not a normal development. At the same time, the Israeli Prime Minister has attracted the attention of the international media with multiple conversations with the Ukrainian President. Ukrainian President Zelensky is complaining that the United States and NATO are not providing the expected support while Russia is carrying out devastating attacks. In this scenario, the Israeli efforts for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine indicate differently.
