Strong repercussions emerge after Sri Lankan citizen was set ablaze and killed in Pakistan

Colombo/Islamabad: – Sri Lanka has expressed anger over the brutal killing of one of its citizens, by extremists, at Sialkot in Pakistan in broad daylight. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has demanded that the Pakistan government take stern action against those involved in this killing. Although the Pakistan government has assured the Sri Lankan government regarding the action, there is widespread criticism in Pakistan that it is noteworthy that only last month, the Imran Khan government had kneeled in front of the terrorists, perpetrating violence in Pakistan and this is defaming Pakistan in front of the world.

Priyantha Kumara, a manager in a renowned garment company in Sialkot, known as the industrial city in Pakistan, was killed in broad daylight on Friday on a busy road. The extremists have recorded a video of the killing of this Sri Lankan citizen and posted it on social media. Whereas, some depraved Pakistanis patted the backs of the extremists setting the Sri Lankan on fire. Besides, some have taken selfies during this unfortunate incident.

Intense anger is being expressed from around Pakistan over this incident in the country. Last month, the Imran Khan government had released Saad Rizvi, chief of the extremist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik and hundreds of his supporters, responsible for this killing. It was criticised that Prime Minister Imran Khan had surrendered to the extremist organisation by releasing the leaders of Labbaik, the organisation responsible for the killing of a policeman, in the Punjab province and challenging Pakistani systems.

After the Friday incident, people, leaders and media in Pakistan have started issuing stern warnings. Concerns are being expressed that these poisonous snakes nourished by the Pakistan agencies will bite Pakistan itself. Whereas, some people are pointing out that the killing of the Sri Lankan citizen was not an exceptional development.

Before this, in 2011, the then Punjab Governor Salman Taseer had criticised the laws against blasphemy. After that, one of his bodyguards had killed Tasir, pumping 27 bullets in him. Nearly 500 extremism campaigners had supported the act. They even started a violent agitation for the release of the bodyguard. At that time, the Pakistan government and agencies had taken a soft stand against the extremists instead of taking a tough stand. Pakistani analysts claim that the Imran Khan government is repeating the same stand.

Meanwhile, repercussions of the killing of the Sri Lankan citizen are being felt even on the international level and the human rights organisation has slammed Pakistan. There are indications of a possible action even by the European Union against Pakistan, as it has been exposed that the Labbaik extremists are behind the incident.
