During an interview with a daily, General Thomson, working as the Vice Chief of Space Operations with the US Space Force, pointed to the increasing Chinese activities in space. General David Thomson warned, ‘Considering the capabilities in space, China is far ahead of Russia. China is rapidly deploying systems with varied capabilities in space. By the end of this decade, China will become the leading power in the space sector.’

The US official pointed out that China and Russia are attacking the US satellites every day and Lasers, Radio Frequency Jammers and even cyberattacks are being used for this purpose. General Thomson also warned that although the United States is still the leader in the space sector, China and Russia are making frantic efforts to catch up, which is a cause for grave concern.

Warnings are being consistently issued regarding the increasing Russian and Chinese activities in space. NATO and the United Kingdom have said that both these countries have made massive preparations for a space war. Accusations that Russia and China have developed a ‘Satellite Destroying Technology’ have also been made. A leading US analyst had warned that given the increasing Chinese capabilities and activities, the next 9/11 would be in space.

But the mention of everyday attacks by Russia and China on the US satellites, by General Thomson, only shows the increasing extent of the Russian and Chinese activities in space.
