Not borrowing from IMF, a mistake, confesses Pakistan PM Imran KhanActing as the opposition party leader, Imran Khan had criticised the Nawaz Sharif government, calling the government as a beggar for loans. Imran Khan had blamed that this government is mortgaging the future of Pakistan by taking loans one after the other. Whereas, the Nawaz Sharif government had said that there was no option other than loans available to the government. Imran Khan had bragged that after taking over the reins of the government, he would prefer to die, rather than begging for a loan.

After taking over as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan continued with his adamance of not borrowing, for a certain period of time. But within a few months, Pakistan was forced to request a fresh loan from the IMF. It had been reported that the Imran Khan government had accepted the stringent terms and conditions imposed for the loan. But now Imran Khan has confessed that he made a mistake of not approaching the IMF for the loan earlier, while talking to the Pakistani journalists. Imran Khan also confessed that not giving momentum to the reforms on the institutional level, also was a big mistake.

Pakistan is paying a dear price for both these mistakes. But while confessing about his own mistakes, Imran Khan made claims that there are other powers responsible for the instability in Pakistan. Imran Khan accused that consortium of a few countries was making sure that Pakistan does not emerge strong. Making such allegations, at a time when the opposition parties are protesting strongly against the government, Imran Khan is indicating that the opposition parties are assisting the enemies.
