Palestine should take advantage of differences between the leadership of Israel and the US – US experts advise

take advantageWashington – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently brought about reforms in the judiciary. Although this is not Palestine, US President Joe Biden has sharply criticised Israel for this. This happened more than once when the US disagreed with Netanyahu. Palestinian analysts in the US advise Palestine to take advantage of the difference between the US and Israel and get their land free from Israeli occupation.

Moreover, the Israeli Prime Minister announced that reforms in the judiciary would be decided by the end of April with consultation from all ministers. Despite this, US president Biden criticised Netanyahu’s policies and warned of losing power due to such policies. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reprimanded the US that the judicial reforms of sovereign states like Israel do not have any role of foreign interventions.

take advantageStrained relations between the US and Israel are quite evident as both countries have openly criticised each other. Since Israel has been an old ally of the US, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken contacted Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen over the phone. However, also advised Israel not to create conflict with Palestine. This was a confirmation of the speculated difference between the US and Israel.

Moreover, Bernie Sanders and Jamaal Bowman, senior leaders of President Biden’s ruling party, also criticised the judiciary reforms, accusing the Netanyahu government in Israel of being on anti-democratic as it is dangerous not only for Israel but for the Palestinians. At the same time, Sanders-Bowman demanded to limit the arms supplied to Israel.

take advantageFurthermore, Democrats’ members of the US Congress have also supported the protesters calling out Netanyahu to be a threat to Israel’s democracy. Palestinian analysts in the US are drawing attention to the criticism of Israel’s leadership from the Biden administration. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will decide on judicial reform, which does not appear related to the Palestinians. But because US President Biden and the leaders of the ruling party have raised questions about Israel’s democracy and independence, Palestinians can benefit from this, as claimed by US analyst Yousef Munayyer.

Besides, Munayyer feels that issues of Palestine can be prominently highlighted due to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu continuing to be in power. Noura Erakat, a Palestinian analyst, claimed the issue of violations of Palestinian rights needs to be capitalised at the international level during the instability in Israel. Noura suggested that this would aid efforts for an independent Palestine.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders in Israel are not ready to settle the dispute over judicial reform through talks with Prime Minister Netanyahu. Hence the instability in Israel still prevails. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards incited hardliners in the West Bank to exploit this.
