New National Security Policy announced in Pakistan

Islamabad: – Pakistan has prepared its first National Security Policy. It is being claimed that for the first time, the policy, formulated under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, considers the citizens and financial security. Moeed Yusuf, the National Security Advisor of Pakistan, underlined the importance of the policy, saying that only a strong economy can ensure the safety of citizens of the country.

Moreover, to date, the military has decided the security policies of Pakistan. The foreign and defence policies of Pakistan also were agreed upon by the military instead of the government. But the Imran Khan government is attempting to break this tradition and formulate a policy with civilian participation. This policy gives importance to the citizens of the country and financial security. Moeed Yusuf claimed that this would ensure national security.

Analysts from Pakistan are claiming that this is the first time such a thought has been presented since the inception of Pakistan. but the analysts are raising a question ‘Does this Pakistan government have the capability to scrap the military system functional for so many years and implement a new national security policy?’ Moreover, the question ‘Does the political leadership of Pakistan have the courage to implement such a policy challenging the military?’ also is being raised on this occasion.

Besides, no matter how attractive the draft of the new security-related policy may be, there is hardly any possibility of its implementation due to the weak democracy and the military influence. Instead, there is a dense possibility that the differences between the current Prime Minister, Imran Khan, and the country’s military, may intensify further.
